Hello everybody I just found this little white 7 legged starfish in my tank, from what I could tell from looking it up on the internet, it is a asterina starfish, some sites said they were no problem and some said they were, I don't know where it came from as I have not added anything to my tank in months, besides what I got from Jacob at the last meeting. I was just wondering if anyone else has these or has any info on them that could maybe help me decide whether or not I should leave it in my tank

It really is a matter of opinion and observation. Some have seen them munch on some coral but that is rare. Usually the problem is that they multiply quickly and can take over a tank. If you have a fuge you can throw it in there, better than killing it.

Ya not from me, I don't have any lol.

It could have come on your live rock and just now started to show itself.

They are harmless, i have spotted a hand full in my tank over the years they don't get big and i have never experienced any loss of corals or any negative effect from them.
They can come in on live rock, coral bases, i would say my tank was 1 to 1.5 years old before i noticed them showing up as well. Not to negate what Jacob said but i have had my tank up and running for 3+ years and i haven't ever seen a spike in numbers and i have nothing in my tank that would eat or bother them. just my experience.
