nate to joey TRUSS

I would build the truss out of square steel, welded everything together and bolt to the back of my existing stand. The system would contain 3 48" Vho t12 super acentics, one 9 420nm pc, and eventually three 250w mh (i only have the two right now that i am going to start with) The picture is not to scale but you get the point

just me maybe, but imo, it would probably be simplier to just get a 15-20k MH. i mean, in the long run, you spend less just because vho's burn out so quickly, yeah, they'll still light, but the spectrum fades within 6 months(from what i've read). i do like the design though, it looks fancy. but im about going for efficiency.
good luck with the project though. im sure it will look stunning when its done.

ya i will have 3 20k mh when i am done and the t12's are for supplemental light to give dim morning light. I will have 1 bulb on a ice cap 660 and 2 bulbs com on later on another icecap 660. i am modeling my new setup after a freinds tank with the best light i have ever seen. hope it works out

thats a good plan, ive always wanted to have it so my tank faded into the the day and died out, but couldnt figure out how to do it w/o using 3-4 timers...i had one way...but i would have to use LED's and a dc circuit.
will yours have 3-4 timers?

right now the way mine is set up i have 3 timers

1- 2 x 48" 54w T5 420nm start at 10 to 12 and again 10 -11

2 - 2 x 48" 110w T12 start at 12 - 10

3 - 4 x48" 85w T5 start at 3 till 9

1 1w blue led always on

This next will be similar but yes i will have 5 timers (untill i get the controller i have my eye on)

1 1 48" 110w t12 on at 10am

1 2 48" 110w t12 on at 12

2 2 250w mh on at 1

1 1 9w pc for moonlight

yeh, i used to solder music keyboards for bands, i know how to make dc circuits...only, waterproofing them is tough, i could house the circuit and run wires to the pref board w/ the led's...but... for now my on/off is working.

you can get pre wired leds in housings from that site i shared, and wire them to a 12 converter plug found at radio shack for like $15. done. Thats how my cooling fans work on my tank. Same principal different load.
